First Qualifier - 12/11/2010

On Sunday 12/11/2010 we went to our first qualifier of the year. The event was held at Walton High School and even though it was their first time holding an event, everything ran smoothly. The runs were on time and the Presentations were in rooms big enough for everyone to spread out. We really appreciate them hosting such a huge event.

Our team was blessed enough to win the Robot Performance Award. We were really excited that our robot did so well. It is the second year we have used this robot set up and we really are glad that we started the season with a working robot that we could modify and improve for the Body Forward Challenge.  Even though our robot had a great day, we as a team has some rough times. Two of our 2 team members who were not feeling well and most of us had tests all week long so were tired. We were not able to practice during the week so our presentations suffered from lack of preparation but our spirits didn't

We try to be open to all teams by telling them how we solved our missions and we love hearing how they solved theirs. First LEGO League is an awesome way to connect with other kids who love LEGOs and have the same goals to learn about science and how to make the world a better place. We hope to do better at the next qualifier but no matter what, WE HAD A BLAST!!!

Super Qualifier - 1/15/2011

We were selected to compete at the Super Qualifier which was held in Warner Robins, Georgia at the Museum of Aviation. There were 39 teams competing for 13 awards in four categories and the chance to advance to the state competition.  The award categories were Robot Performance (1st place only), Project (Research, Innovative Solution & Sharing), Robot Design ("Innovative & Strategy Design", "Mechanical Design" and "Programming") and Core Values (Inspiration, Teamwork, and Gracious Professionalism), then there were 3 Champion Awards (1st, 2nd & 3rd). There are also two Judges Awards that may be given to teams that may not have earned a full award but have shown great character or potential. Those awards are "Against All Odds Award" and the "Rising Star Award"  The Against All Odds or Overcoming Adversity Award is given to a team that overcomes great adversity or hardship to compete, such as having their robot stolen the night before or having their presentation materials flooded out. The Rising Star Award is usually given to a Rookie team who may not have made the cut to move on but shows great promise for the future.

Our team was graced with winning the Robot Design Award and the opportunity to compete again at the state level. This has been an exciting season for the team. Even though our coach and team mate Beca were seriously injured, we were able to turn that tragedy into a great project reflecting a real need for change in the area of orthopedic medicine. We were excited to learn and discover the amazing medical enhancements that are on the horizon for all of us.

2010 FLL Season

The Project - Body Forward Page is what First LEGO wants us to focus on, the pages Osteo Repairo and Experts & Researchers are how we did it. Osteo Repairo is our answer to the problem we chose to solve which how to help the body repair bones. Experts & Researchers are the people we read about, interviewed, talked to and wrote to ask about our project. Body Forward Robot Mission Challenge is details the missions First LEGO League wants us all to solve. Our Mission Plan is how we solved the missions. We didn't quite finish some but we did give it our all on the missions we did complete.  We worked with Davie Gottfried at Georgia Tech and he wrote about our meeting on his blog.
